“BIODIVERSITY AMBASSADORS” PROGRAM LAUNCHED: OVER 300 YOUNG PEOPLE TO BECOME PIONEERS OF GREEN CHANGE

A joint initiative of Armenia’s higher education institutions has officially marked the launch of the “Biodiversity Ambassadors” youth educational and environmental program. The project is implemented by the newly established Armenian University Coalition for Biodiversity (AUCB) within the framework of the “Road to COP17” initiative by the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment at the American University of Armenia (AUA).

The main objective of the program is to empower Armenian students, equip them with modern ecological knowledge, and prepare them ahead of the 17th global Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), scheduled to take place in Yerevan in October 2026.

More than 300 student applicants from Yerevan and various regional universities have already joined the launch phase of the program. Shirak State University named after M. Nalbandyan was represented by fifteen participants.

Following the official launching ceremony, capacity-building and training sessions were conducted for the participants, led by leading local and international experts in the field. Participants who successfully complete the training phase will be awarded the status of “Biodiversity Ambassador.”
