“The Priest of Humanism” Event Held at State University of Shirak
A literary and artistic event entitled “The Priest of Humanism” was held at Shirak State University, dedicated to the great Armenian poet Hovhannes Shiraz and his humanistic poetry. Hovhannes Shiraz remains relevant, like all truly great figures; he is deeply national and precisely through this, universal. With the enduring values he created, Shiraz is a poet of today as well—a great voice of the sorrowful past of the Armenian people, of a present marked by anxiety and struggle and a noble herald of a hopeful future.
The initiator and organizer of the event was Ofelya Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at SHSU.
The event was attended by students and lecturers from various specialties of the university.
At the end of the event, speeches and words of gratitude were delivered by SHSU Rector Yervand Serobyan; Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, Shiraz scholar Samvel Muradyan; Director of the Hovhannes Shiraz House-Museum Lusine Petrosyan; Shiraz’s great-niece Narine Khachatryan; and Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and Literature at SSU, Marieta Khachatryan.
