History of the chair
In the course of structural changes at Shirak State University, in 2017, as a result of the unification of the Chairs “Russian Language” and “Foreign Literature”, the Chair of “Russian Language and Literature” was formed.
The Chair has a rich history of scientific and teaching activities.
In 1940-1971, it functioned as a general Chair of “Russian Language, Literature and Foreign Languages’”, which was successively headed by Mekhak Harutyunyan, Elena Grigoriadi, Arsen Arustamyan, Anahit Amiryan, Bella Yesajanyan, Boris Bartenev, Nikolay Anastasov.
Since 1970, the Chairs of “Russian Language” and “Foreign Literature” have been formed as independant units headed by Accosiate Professors Emma Hovhannisyan, Yuri Safyan, professor Gayane Ambardaryan, Accosiate Professors Maria Levintsova, Yuri Sokhryakov, Tatyana Shchepakova, Seda Ghasabyan, Tamara Melikyan, Evelina Matevosyan. Since 2017, Associate Professor Evelina Matevosyan has been the Head of the Chair of “Russian Language and Literatue”.
Currently, the Chair successfully continues the best traditions. Within the framework of the scientific interests of the Chair are: current issues of linguistics, literary studies, methods of teaching Russian language and literature, creation of textbooks.
Almost all the members of the Chair have academic titles and degrees, are authors of numerous monographs, articles, textbooks, as well as methodological manuals. The members of the Chair take an active part in the republican and international conferances, considering the problems of the educational system in different spheres of science.
The Chair cooperates with the chairs of many HEIs, scientific centers and schools. Currently, the Chair offers two bachelor’s degree and master’s degree professional education programs with full-time and part-time learning.
