Visit of the Ambassador of Iran to Shirak State University

Shirak State University was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani. The Rector of the University, Yervand Serobyan, welcomed the ambassador and thanked him for his visit.

He briefly presented the history of the university and noted that the 90-year-old institution not only proudly preserves its heritage, but also constantly strives for new achievements and development.

Mr. Serobyan added that the university is always open to establishing and expanding new partnerships, which is also enshrined in the university’s strategic development program. One of its priorities is the establishment of educational and cultural ties with Armenian communities of the Diaspora. To achieve this goal, he expressed the university’s readiness to provide educational and cultural services to the Iranian-Armenian community through cooperation with Armenian Studies centers operating at universities in Iran.

Emphasizing the importance of respect and appreciation for partners’ culture and language in establishing effective cooperation, Mr. Serobyan also proposed jointly discussing in the near future issues related to introducing Persian language courses at the university, as well as at its school and college.

Ambassador Mehdi Sobhani, expressing gratitude for the warm reception, the willingness to cooperate, and the noteworthy proposals, noted that he also considers the establishment and deepening of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education and science to be important.

He presented interesting proposals and stated that they are ready to support the implementation of these initiatives and contribute to the development of academic relations between the two countries. The Ambassador also expressed his readiness to support the development and implementation of an Iranian Studies academic program at Shirak State University.

Several other issues of mutual interest were also discussed, related to establishing ties between Shirak State University and Iranian universities and strengthening cooperation through reciprocal study visits and the exchange of experience.
