Scientific Seminar at Shirak State University on the Topic “Eastern Borrowings in the Phraseological Units of the Modern Gyumri Dialect”

A scientific seminar entitled “Eastern Borrowings in the Phraseological Units of the Modern Gyumri Dialect” was held at the Faculty of Humanities of Shirak State University. The speaker was Susanna Zakaryan, Associate Professor of the Chair of Armenian Language and Literature.
The aims of the seminar were to:
evaluate linguistic conservatism as a historical category;
present the Gyumri dialect within the context of lexical borrowings from Eastern languages;
identify the influence of phraseological units (especially those containing foreign components) on national linguistic thinking.
The speaker presented oral borrowings from Eastern languages preserved in the dialects of Gyumri and neighboring villages, as well as phraseological units that were either fully borrowed or contained foreign elements. The impact of these phraseological units on national linguistic thinking was discussed, and their long-term applicability across various domains was substantiated.
At the end of the seminar, a discussion of the presented observations took place, followed by a question-and-answer session.
