10th-Grade Students of Verin Ptghni Secondary School Visited Shirak State University
The 10th-grade students of Verin Ptghni Secondary School visited Shirak State University. Accompanied by their Armenian Language and Literature teacher, A. Martirosyan, the students toured all the faculties of the university and met with the heads of different departments as well as with students.
The purpose of the future students’ visit was to travel to various universities across the republic to meet and speak with specialists who are well informed about issues related to the multifaceted characterization of the Armenian vocabulary. Their aim was to create interactive electronic material for the dissemination of dialectal phenomena and to carry out their planned project work.
The dialects of the Armenian language, which possess a rich lexical treasury, are today facing the danger of assimilation. Modern technologies, mass media and other factors also contribute to this process. The students discussed dialects and modern Armenian in greater detail at the Department of Armenian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities at Shirak State University.
At the department they were welcomed by the Head of the Department, Associate Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences M. Khachatryan, who greeted them and wished them a warm welcome.
She presented in detail the unparalleled strength of the Armenian language, the importance of preserving the purity of the mother tongue and the significance of studying dialectology. She also spoke about the multilayered nature of the dialects of the Armenian Highlands, particularly those of our region.
The meeting between Mrs. Khachatryan and the students proceeded in the form of a lively and active question-and-answer discussion.
At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Khachatryan answered additional questions from the students. At the conclusion of the productive day, the guests promised to visit the university again.
